On 13th December 2011 students from year groups 7 to 13 took part in The Blyth School Performing Arts Showcase. A variety of song, dance and drama work was performed to a full auditorium of over 300 friends and family as well as staff from throughout the school.
Students performing in Years 10 to 13 were being assessed as part of their BTEC Dance courses. Year 10 had their debut performance with a vampire themed Toxic, while Year 11 students worked in smaller groups choreographing all their own work. After the performance Andrew Williamson from Year 10 said “I enjoyed working with the whole group.”
Sixth Form dancers performed several pieces of their work created since September with Miss Stephenson and Miss Mumby including a piece of lyrical dance; Where Ever You Will Go.
Year 7, 8 and 9 students all performed some impressive work they had created in their lunchtime clubs. The Blyth School B-Boyz entertained the audience with their brave head spins and back flips. Ellen Gibbon from Year 9 said, “It was an inspirational evening, seeing other people’s choreography and styles of dance.”
The dance work was broken up by A Christmas Disco performed by the BTEC drama group and Do You Hear What I Hear which was beautifully sung by Year 12 student Kirsty O’Neil.
By the end of the evening it was very clear that all the hard work had paid off and both the performers and audience had a wonderful evening. We now look forward to our next showcase on 17th May 2012 where our Year 11 Dancers will perform for the final time.
