INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF LANGUAGE AND CULTURE 2010

In March 2010 a group of 40 Key Stage 3 and Post-16 Gifted Language students attended the “International Festival of Language and Culture” at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Our students represented the School with excellent conduct, interest, enthusiasm and commitment and we in the Department are very proud of the positive feedback we have received.

Among a wide variety of activities throughout the day, our students were actively involved in:

A Latin American Dancing lesson - a demonstration of this highly popular art form
“Go on Jordan...show us how to Cha Cha Cha!”

“Capoeira” - a demonstration of this Portuguese/Brazilian fusion of dance and martial arts
“Careful with those high kicks, Andrew!”

A Talk about Interpreting   - a fascinating insight into the world of a professional interpreter
“I can see you doing this job one day, Corey!”

Language Learning Workshops - an opportunity to learn Welsh, Chinese, Dutch and Russian
“What does MOO mean, Shannon?”

A demonstration of Chinese Dragon dancing
“I hope the dragon bite has healed up now, Claire!”

A Question and Answer session - for our Post-16 students with young linguists at university
“You will be answering questions like this very soon, Chloe!”

A stunning, memorable performance by CALIBER - a South African Hip-Hop collective
“I think you should get a prize for taking 1,000 photographs, Janine!”

A great day for our top language learners and a worthwhile experience for all who took part!
