Our Foreign Language Assistant Teachers

The Department of Modern Languages is proud to have hosted French and German Speaking Assistant Teachers every year for over 30 years, at a time when many schools are missing this wonderful opportunity.

We have always strongly supported the notion that Foreign Language Assistants bring an important added dimension to language learning. They bring obvious academic benefits, with their ability to converse in their own language. Equally important, however, is the enhancement they offer in terms of cultural and social awareness.

This year, we welcome

PAULINE TALON from France and SINJA MELCHINGER from Germany

to our school. Every effort will be made to enable all of our students to have the opportunity to meet and work with these 2 young people, fostering academic, social and cultural benefits, both inside and outside the classroom.

For obvious reasons, prospective exam candidates in Years 11 and 13 can expect to be given priority and they will work with the Assistants every week during the final year of their respective courses.

For the first time this year we are excited to announce that both Sinja and Pauline will also be working every week at Malvins Close Primary School. This will enhance the teaching of foreign languages to the younger students in our community and create stronger ties between our 2 schools, which we will continue to develop in future years.
