Our Ethos
The Blyth School Geography Department is an exciting and forward thinking department. Our ethos is to teach all ages and abilities the true value of our planet, the way it was formed, the life which it supports and what the future holds for it. Encouraging our students to become balanced, compassionate and independent individuals who are equipped to make the most of their future is central to what we teach.

Key Stage 3 Geography
Key stage three pupils study a ‘Geography Taster Course’. The course is practical and ‘real’ covering vital issues such as Fair Trade, wild weather and illegal immigration.

Key Stage 4 Geography
At GCSE we study AQA Specification A. We have enjoyed some very successful results over the last three years and are a popular option choice.

Key Stage 5 Geography
At A Level we study the AQA Specification. Within this course are some very contemporary modules such as Health and Global conflicts as well as more traditional units such as Ecosystems and Hazards.

Travel and Tourism
At Key stage 5 Travel and Tourism as offered as a level 2 qualification, using the OCR National specification. This course is fun and practical and offers an excellent stepping stone to tourism and customer service based employment.

Field Visits and Residential Trips
There are opportunities for visits at all Key stages. We make field work and visits a priority because we know the value of ‘seeing’ and ‘doing’ in a real situation. These are also the times that pupils create the priceless memories of school which will be carried with them for the rest of their lives.
