History

The History department at The Blyth School offers students an interesting and exciting insight into events which have shaped our lives.

We aim to:

Provide youngsters with a wide ranging experience of History, from the Tudors to the Twentieth Century, based on the 5 key-aspects of chronology, knowledge, interpretation, enquiry and communication.

Provide opportunity for the experience of active History, encouraging students to engage fully in their learning and become highly-skilled, independent Historians.

Encourage students to become critical thinkers, forming and evaluating their own historical interpretations of the past.

Develop an understanding of the skills involved in History and the benefits the subject brings to society, including its potential as a career option.

At Key Stage 4 students follow OCR Modern World History which includes International Relations 1919-1939, Britain 1890-1919 and the USA 1919-1941.  Students also complete a controlled assessment on the theme of warfare. They will get the opportunity to visit the First World War battlefields in France.

The History Department prides itself on maintaining an excellent uptake of students at Key Stage 5 and we have maintained a 100% pass rate for the past four years.  They follow the AQA syllabus with units on the USA 1919-1941, Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.  Students also complete an individual enquiry.

We also offer AS and A2 Law and again we pride ourselves on the excellent uptake of students.  They follow the OCR syllabus with units on the English Legal System and Sources of Law.
