Music

At The Blyth School, Community College, music plays an important role in many students’ lives. Over the last few years we have seen some excellent GCSE results. The ethos of the department however offers much more to the students than just examination success.

By creating a supportive, comfortable learning environment, students are encouraged to share their learning through performance, which not only enhances their learning, but provides the students with incredibly important opportunities in which to develop their confidence and self-esteem. As well as a multitude of performance opportunities in College, both in and out of lessons, students have also performed for the local community, such as singing and playing musical instruments for patients in a local hospital.  Such opportunities allow the students to contribute to the local community whilst sharing their talents with those outside of the College environment.
The music department has seen a variety of musicians leave College at the end of their studies to continue musical endeavours, be it further study or performing.
Our aims are to:
·         Encourage students to engage in performance, using it as an opportunity to promote and evaluate their work whilst improving self-esteem.
·         Provide students with the chance to further their musical experience in ways which are appropriate and inclusive to all.
