Year 8

Year 8 is the second year of a young person’s Secondary Education. In year 8, we help students to develop personally and academically. There are 3 areas that are our foundation for all students

- Attendance to School
- Positive Behaviour for Learning
- Commitment to achieving academic success

These areas are regularly monitored, rewarded and recognised.

We all work together so that year 8 is enjoyable and successful for all individuals.

During Year 8, all students study the same curriculum. Year 8 is important as a stepping stone into choosing and studying their GCSE subjects. Through their wide range of lesson experiences they should grow and develop in the skills they possess. These skills will be transferable into their Key Stage 4 subjects and beyond.

It is my role to ensure that every student gets the chances that they deserve is supported and any barriers to learning addressed. You can rest assured that I will be working as hard as possible to make this happen. Each student can help themselves achieve by being prepared for school and lessons. To do this they must:

·                  Bring their planners to EVERY lesson
·                  Take a pen, pencil, ruler and rubber to all lessons
·                  Be punctual to registration and ALL lessons
·                  Attend school as much as possible
·                  Dress in the appropriate uniform

I am a strong believer in rewarding positive behaviour and students, who do the above as a bare minimum, will be rewarded. One way will be from their tutor as ‘student of the week’ for their tutor group. This will bring several privileges along with it:

·         Lunchtime queue jumper for that week
·         Entry into half term draws for huge prizes.
·         All students of the week for the term will have an opportunity to go on a trip at end of the term.
·         They will also receive a letter home to celebrate this achievement

I am really looking forward to working with you and your son/daughter for the remainder of their time in school. Should you have any concerns then do not hesitate to contact me:
