Our History

Croftway - A School that has embraced change!

There has been a school on our site behind Croft Park for over one humdred years!

Originally, the schools that were built to cater for educating the expanding polulation in Blyth, wwere an infant school and a junior school built next to each other. Crofton Infant and Crofton Junior remained largely unchanged until the 1970's; when a reorganisation of the school system in Northumberland created a 3 teir approach and the infant school became Crofton First School and the junior school became Kingsway First School. Kingsway took the name from the road that boarders one side of the school site.

From the turnof the millenium the two First Schools worked together increasingly closely and in 2003 the fence that separated the playgrounds came down and a new Sport and Community facility was built = The Spartan Centre!

Later the same year, Kingsway and Crofton merged to become a single school. You will be able to guess how Croftway First School got its name! An alternative would have been Kingston!

In September 2009, following another re-organisation of schools in Blyth, Croftway became a Primary school when it kept hold of children at the end of Y4 for the first time since the 1970's!

That is the whistlestop version! We will endeavour to unpick our rich and interesating history as the forthcoming years unfold. It is possible that YOU could add and contribute to our quest to re=tell some of our hundred plus year history! Please let us know what you know and remember!
